Callback Films - Callie Che's A2 Media Evaluation

Representation

Females in the film industry are often either portrayed as a damsel in distress or as a femme fatale, therefore either drawing on a woman's vulnerability or sexuality to depict their character. I have challenged this representation of women by creating the character of a 'mole', a double agent within the antagonist family. This character acts as the donor and dispatcher in my production as defined by Vladimir Propp's character types and is played by a female actress. The donor and dispatcher are often portrayed as bearded old men such as Dumbledore in the Harry Potter franchise or Gaius in the Merlin series. Hence, my production challenges the traditional conventions of representation by presenting a female donor/dispatcher that does not fit the stereotype. This also creates an equal view of women and their roles as compared to the males in my production.
In what ways does your media product challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Camera Movement
In my production, I used many panning and establishing shots which is usually uncommon in a trailer. I have challenged the typical use of camera movement because I wanted to show the differing locations of each scene in a straightforward fashion which would easily make sense to the audience. Therefore, I have used many shots of the location to make the plot clear to the audience and to emphasise the transitions between location.
Music
Transcript: Typically in productions, music is used continuously throughout the trailer with similar instruments throughout. I have challenged this by using musical transitions in my trailer which matches the visual action. This creates a track that has more defined differences between specific scenes which creates more emphasis on tense moments.
